Finding The Best Wedding DJ For You

Updated: Nov 16

Let's get this party started!! 🥳 No literally like let's get the party started planning your wedding! Other than securing a venue and a photographer right out of the gate with all things planning a wedding, there is one other VERY important vendor you need early on for your big day and that is your DJ!

DJs play a critical role in setting the tone and creating a memorable experience for your wedding guests! You don't want somebody who plays the same playlist at every wedding and you certainly don't want someone who can't get the crowd pumped up!

As a wedding photographer, I know finding vendors can be a little overwhelming at times! You might not know what to look for, what questions to ask and where to start but no worries!! I made a little cheat sheet for you to get started and I even listed a few recommendations of my favorite DJs in the Columbus area so check them out below!

Tip 1: Start your research early! Like yesterday! The best DJs are in high demand and often booked months if not years in advance, so start your research as early as possible.

Tip 2: Ask for recommendations: Ask your friends, family, and wedding vendors for recommendations, always! Learn more about their experiences and who made the night memorable!

Tip 3: Check the DJ's experience: Make sure the DJ has experience in providing music for weddings in particular! Weddings require a very different skill set than regular parties or events, and the DJ should be familiar with the wedding traditions, timelines, and music preferences you'd like to incorporate.

Tip 4: Review their playlist/s: A good DJ will have a diverse playlist that can cater to all ages and musical tastes. Ask the DJ for a sample playlist or see if they have one on their website!

Tip 5: Discuss the logistics! Ask the DJ about their equipment, backup plans, and set-up requirements. DJs need time to set up and tear down before and after weddings so make sure to check how long they need! Also, make sure that they have liability insurance and a contingency plan in case of emergencies.
